Neither had a chance to get in under the old system. Sure, giving more teams a chance means sometimes you end up with an SMU or Indiana... but you also get one of the all-time great spectacles (ASU v Texas). All the Big 12 wanted out of the CFP was a chance for their champion to compete, which wasn't going to happen without Texas and OU on board, and they got it. And Ohio St isn't deprived of a chance to prove they're the best team in the country, which they are, because they happened to catch a hot team (Michigan) at a bad time.
I am enjoying these playoffs.
