My main change is that any Conference Champ - even Group of 5 (6 now with the "pac 12"?) should get a home game over an at large if they don't get a bye.

e.g. this year, Clemson/Texas should have been played AT Clemson, not a home game for Texas.

Most years, this is going to be the Group of 5 team (Boise...) and I think that

a) conference champs have earned it as compared to the also-ran teams from the SEC/B1G

b) Boise and other such teams NEVER get to play these types of games at home, and most of the teams in the SEC/B1G never play such teams on the road. It would be good for the fans of both schools (go places they've never been, and/or see teams that would never come), and provide a better incentive for the at-large teams to win their conference championships if they think they are in already.

But I do think the second round seeding is going to need tweaks, especially as those 4 team with bye's don't get a home field advantage ever, tho their fans do know where they are going and can get tix cheaper.

All of that said, the current CFP is only through 2026 (just next year? I *think* so, but I'm not certain), and I think it will likely go to 16 as soon as this contract is over.
