We and others often complain about officiating, but who wants to
be an official and why?
Are there any here? Football, basketball, baseball? It seems thankless
and likely to draw few compliments.
Maybe the opportunities to travel and officiate big games.
However, most of the time something is missed or miss-called.
Remember the Tigers pitcher who had a no-hitter until the final
batter was called safe at first? That ump later cried and apologized.
There's a YouTube of an college ump whose strike calls were so laughable
that the league suspended him.
The Bruins were called for pass interference in the late 1960s in
a crucial usc game when the ball went far over everyone's head.
Even with Instant Replay, there are phantom calls.
If anyone here is a game official, I'd appreciate a response. Is it
fulfilling, exciting ... ? The words "official" and "officious" are
relatives.
Thanks.
(Go Bruins vs. Iowa.)
