Leon Wood attended high school at St. Monica's, a few miles from UCLA, where he averaged over 40 points a game. During the off season he would go over to Westwood after school and play pickup games on campus. At the UCLA basketball games he would sit in the rooting section. He told everyone he would be a Bruin. But then Gary Cunningham resigned and Larry Brown, not his mentor Larry Farmer, got the job. So he signed with Arizona, spent a year there and transferred to CS Fullerton where he averaged 24 points a game and was a consensus All-American his senior year. He was the 10th overall pick in the NBA draft.

So we got Larry Brown instead of Leon Wood. Had Brown not left so soon, he probably would have done great things here. If Larry Farmer had Wood, maybe not. He had some pretty good guards, Foster, Jackson and Holton. But when Foster and Holton graduated, the same year Wood would have too, it fell apart.
