My officiating career ended in the 9th grade when I got roughed up after a game because of a call the other official made. (That guy became the publicist for the Clippers or something like that.)
But there was one success story I was part of. I was coaching an 8th grade team and the ref told me it was his first game officiating and he hoped to make it a career. He was a star player for Cal St. L.A. Several years later at a Bruin game in Pauley I noticed he was one of the refs. Nice guy who sadly passed away recently.
