I don't think they were ever welcoming of trans people in the first place. It may sound unfair and aggressive on my end, but when I think of the Democratic Party, all I can imagine is who they're going to throw under the bus this time ... whether it is the working poor, the homeless, muslim minorities, trans people, or whoever the right focuses on as their next target. The Democratic Party has always been more than ready to jettison marginalized groups as they continually try to appeal to the Republican base.

It took a whole population shifting on gay marriage for the party to come around on that issue, right around the time when the more rational segment of conservatives were ready to sway. Somehow that does not seem to have had any impact on the party when a larger segment of the population began to see Palestinians as human beings.

Note: sure, the role of trans women in women's sports is a thing that needs to be looked at and studied carefully to assess what kinds of advantages are at stake to what extent in which sport relative to when and how early the hormone transition starts. The problem is when the right turns this legitimate question into a blanket oppositon against the well-being or acceptance of trans individuals who are not a part of any athlectic competition and are insterested all and only in living their own lives without being harrassed or threatened, treating it like a societal crisis, and the Democratic Party completely bails out of the discussion and acts like trans people don't matter at all and don't deserve to be treated as people. THAT is where I get angry with the party, and to be fair, with a lot of liberals.
