The title chart is the average daily Russian casualty count by month, and the first thing to note is that Russian manpower losses have seen a significant rise over the past several months, with July 2026 closing in on nearly 1400 per day — the highest average monthly loss since January 2025, and the fourth highest monthly loss overall. This total of more than 40,000 killed or seriously wounded in a month is now substantially higher than what Russia can actually replace with their current level of ‘recruitment’, and is the prime reason Putin will almost certainly have to call for a much higher degree of mobilization after the next set of elections to the Duma in September if he remains serious about continuing to prosecute this obscenely unjustified ‘special military operation’.
