Davis said what Dr.Bruin said about going from 1st to 2nd, that there is no designated "path" and the runner is free to make his own. It would be incredibly hard to prove Machado's intent in a replay review situation, because yes, his back was turned. That said, I agree it was likely intentional, but it'd be near impossible to prove that.
Beyond that, Dave Roberts, his rules-guru coach, and NONE of the Dodgers players on the field started pointing, yelling, or otherwise protesting that a call should have been made. I trust they know far more about the rules than you, Dr.Bruin, or I will ever know.
