There was a historic moment when the US/Iran relations could have turned towards a more cooperative direction after 9/11 when Iranian government offered assistance, and even actually helped, as I understand it, during the operations in Afghanistan. We f*cked up that relationship so many times in so many ways, it's mind boggling.
