You look at 1) did the departing player do anything for us? 2) where is the departing player going? We like JMS, Prongos, Harden and Loya because we are familiar with them, but statistically they didn't do much last season. Most of our transfer outs haven't even found a new destination yet, meaning no one wants them. For the ones that found a home, it's Bowling Green, Sac State, Stanford, Minnesota, hardly big time programs that's got plenty of options and NIL money.

It's true we got unknown quantities from the portal but most of them were highly recruited out of high school, 4* players. I would gladly trade DJ Justice who spent 4 years w/ us logging 1 tackle for someone like Aaron Williams from Louisville, a ESPN 300 player two years ago in HS.

So it really comes down to is would you consider it's an upgrade or downgrade to trade a below average player that is unlikely to get better for someone that has the physical tools but haven't proven it in a college game.
