He and his father gave Ryan Day a list of demands.

What those demands were has never been confirmed by either side. McCord did say his leaving was a business decision. That decision was made after McCord and his father met with Ryan Day. It's been reported that Daddy McCord and Kyle wanted guarantees concerning playing time and more NIL money.

Day said thanks for coming in, but no thanks. The two sides then agreed to go their separate ways.

McCord headed for Syracuse and Will Howard landed in Columbus. Howard, by the way, was given no guarantees of playing time. In winning the starting job, he had to beat out a 4* Devin Brown and two 5*s, Air Nolan and Julian Sayin {Alabama transfer}.

McCord had an excellent season out of the national spotlight at Syracuse. He performed much better than anything he ever did on the national stage in Columbus.

When you are the starting QB at Ohio State you are under the spotlight 24/7. The expectations are totally unrealistic, but it is what it is. If you don't know that going in, you haven't been paying attention.

When Ohio wins, the starting QB is a big man on campus. When the team loses, it's No. 1 the fault of Ryan Day and his starting QB.

McCord wasn't always comfortable under those circumstances, even when the Bucks won. He was at times very good in Columbus. He flourished, however, under much less scrutiny in Upstate New York.
