So it's really hard to take anyone seriously who unironically derides the university as a "public welfare program," blithely ignorant of the primary role of a public university.
Regardless, UCLA has been #1 for many years in a row in the single most important ranking, applications received from prospective students who want to go there. In such a competitive environment, the market is never wrong.
