Even the simplest of people could figure out the deal was struck largely because of UCLA's brand recognition internationally including China. And prior to the UA deal, the AD had the largest apparel deal in the country with Adidas. That largely was made because of not only UCLA's brand name, but the expectation of Ucla football and basketball on a national stage. Results and TV matter. The QUITTER had received a compensation package with an expectation of putting Ucla back on the national map to rival programs with Nike deals. At least Ucla rivaled them in nutrition.

When UA ended trying to break the contact, which apparel groups wanted in after? Really no one because Ucla football was average at best and the HC lacked any TV charisma. So Jumpman was able to come in with pennies on the dollar. So yeah, Chip gets to take some credit there.
