Let's start with when did an elite program 1st rise to blue blood status.
Pre-mid 60s: Kentucky, Kansas and UNC
Mid-60s: Ucla
70s: Indiana, Louisville
80s: gtown
90s: Duke
00s: UConn, Michigan state
10s: Villanova
That's 12 schools that have defined at least one decade.
Maybe Florida deserves a seat at the round table. 3 natties with a young coach who's got it rolling can do that.
Maybe Gonzaga belongs. No titles, but they win battles for top players regularly.
Teams that seem to have slipped away...
Indiana... another coach fired
Ucla... hard to get top players to come on board
G-town... who's the coach these days?
Louisville... good bounce back this year, but yeah
Nova... Jay Wright is gone, elite programs are elite under multiple coaches (rollie don't count)
I'm not sure Michigan state is "elite" anymore. Schizo is not my tempo
That leaves:
UK
KU
UNC
Duke
UConn
All 5 have strong fan bases. All 5 do well at recruiting. All 5 are pretty successful on the court and sending players to the nba.
