between "Blue Blood" and elite. Some schools are presently both, some are one or the other. When I think of "Blue Bloods" I can almost insert the word "venerable." I think UCLA is presently relevant but not necessarily in the top tier of relevant schools. But, IMO, UCLA is a "Blue Blood" venerable school. Indiana is in that category as well IMO. Florida, IMO, is presently elite and perhaps on the cusp of "Blue Blood" status.

Notre Dame in football is a blue blood and although relevant for a long time went through a period where they weren't. Now they are back in the top tier of schools - perhaps on the lower side of the top tier. Perhaps UCLA, although IMO near the top of the second tier schools will perhaps one day return to their elite level as well as being a "Blue Blood" program.
