I like Mick Cronin. I know he turns a lot of people off and I understand that. He can be an acquired taste. That being said his recruiting (pick your reason(s)) has been spotty the past couple of years and the results have shown it. UCLA has one tournament win in the past two seasons. My question is how long does the AD give him to turn things around?
Mick isn't likely to change his personality and I know that is, to some extent, playing a role in getting/keeping players. I believe NIL is a bigger factor. Every season is free agency and most kids are looking to cash in so there is very little loyalty to coaches or schools any longer.
My personal take is that it is a combination of Mick's hard nosed defense heavy style along with a limited NIL budget that is causing the recruiting issues. UCLA has zero high school kids coming in next year. That to me is a problem.
So, how long does the AD give him to turn it around before deciding that perhaps Mick isn't the right guy for the NIL era? I hope Mick gets it turned around, but things don't look great at the moment (Dent aside).
