I think if Mara/Kyle can just play solid maybe with a combined 10/10 and do no harm while also not providing defensive holes that will bode well for the Bruins today and into the future.
But, I'm more of a guard play guy when it comes to wresting victory and success in highly competitive highly structured basketball. I think the Bruins have an abundance of wealth when it comes to their back court, but there's something seriously lacking in my view.
I think the one thing the Bruins right now need is someone to be a true point guard. To me that has to be Dylan Andrews. He's the one guy who has shown he can do it as evidenced by his late last season play. I really don't care how many points or assists he gets.
What the Bruins need is that one guy who can direct and focus the other guys and the entire play on the court. When needed there has to be one guy who can, on his own, get a good look or get a good look for someone else. There needs to be someone who can calm and gather the others into a cohesive unit functioning at its utmost on a consistent basis.
Andrews has shown that he can score. He has shown that he can get others involved. He has shown that he can be relied upon to control the flow and take care of the ball. He's a bear on defense, makes the smart play more times than not. He has the experience and poise to go into an opponents home court and provide the necessary elements that a true point guard can provide. What he hasn't shown is the consistent single minded psychological toughness to o it all every night. I learned over years of competition that it's just as important to prepare psychologically for a game as it is physically and maybe takes even more work.
In short, I think Andrews, IMO, is the key to the season at this point moving forward. He can play an okay game, contribute, and maybe others can pick up the slack and either through committee or someone's extraordinary one night effort bring the Bruins closer to their potential and in turn success and that could happen with this deep talented team. Or, Dylan can play every night the way he is capable of playing and provide the leadership to bring all the very good elements this team possesses into fruition and cohesion and make this team, for the rest of the season, into the juggernaut, I think, they can become - with or without truly outstanding post play as long as they get solid post play.
