You don’t understand the economics of conferences. The PAC has been doomed for years. They couldn’t grow and the trend was towards mega conferences. More importantly, the crown jewel had been looking for a new home for years. The crown jewel was of course SUC. Once sc left, the Pac was done. It’s really that simple. Basketball and the non-revenue sports are completely irrelevant to conferences. The only 2 exceptions to this are Duke and UK hoop.
Once SC made the decision to leave Oregon had to leave and UW felt similarly. Why? Because football is the only thing that pays the bills. Put simply the west didn’t have the level of competition to compete with the big boys of the sport. Some universities wanted to be big boys, namely SC and Oregon.
I’m still at a loss as to why Fox chose ucla. Thr only rational reason is that SC required it. The numbers just don’t pen out for ucla v Oregon, for example. Sc must have mandated that they bring us along for thr ride.
