Senile orange is ordering the navy to remove the state of the art electromagnetic catapults fully integrated into the design of the latest aircraft carriers and replace them with older steam catapults. Few problems: first, Trump is a fking moron and doesn’t understand enough about warships to realize that battleships have been obsolete for nearly a century. Second, this is an incredibly stupid thing to do. The ships spaces and engineering was designed to use the smaller, more compact ELM catapults, and doing this retrofit will require significant reconfiguration of interior spaces. Doing so will require taking out most advanced warships out of commission while these extensive redesigns can be performed, at a time when the existing carrier fleet is stressed to a breaking point by continuous combat operations.
All this will, of course, piss away millions of dollars unnecessarily to accomplish nothing, other than degrading the capabilities of our most sophisticated warships.
