Like I'm fond of saying: There are three major achievements we've had as a species that brought us to where we are now.
- Fire
- Agriculture
- Vaccines
(I'm sure there are a couple of more but it's a literary tradition to phrase these things in threes.)
And now we're (so to speak) against one of them.
(BTW, vaccination is not a modern medicine thing. A lot of traditional societies understood the concept of immunity as a practical matter and practiced extremely lo-tech versions of it back in the day.)
