Of course when you have the fewer people who are spread across a bigger surface area, your entire theory of democracy starts to get aligned around land rather than people. People who grew up believing they are the (silent) majority are having a tough time coping with being the minority. Their collective sense of self-esteem is in the toiled at this point.
