around conventional church is on the decline, perhaps as an extension of the way Americans are growing distrustful of institutions, a different version of Christianity that's organized not around a church but around a political party, an ideological construct of a nation, even perhaps a militia is is growing in popularity to replace it?

Just spitballing here. Christianity is not something I'm at all plugged into, as you probably know.
