all I know that he was maybe at an event in a campus in Utah and that he was shot in the neck, with the claim that his jugular vein was hit, which can't be good.
This is bad on so many levels.
- Political violence is bad, period.
- Killing people is bad, period, no matter how awful the person is, especially when the awfulness is not that he has physically hurt anyone, but used only words.
- If this was a deliberate political action, we don't want to go down that road at all. But if it is some headcase looking for fame, which is the US standard for shootings, I'll refer you to that well-known Onion headfline "Nothing can be done..."
I think as tempers rise in the comming months and years, we need to stand firm on anti-violence and not equivocate on that. Morality matters. Unless and until we are openly in a civil war, of course. Under that condition, all bets are off.
