The real Id not counting as a valid I'd is a big deal. It changes the whole landscape.
I've argued for this before. We need a national citizen database with national Id numbers and national Id cards, provided for free to every citizen and issued upon birth.
I think this would be a poliical winner for Democrats especially if they tie it into the voter id business... Though how to execute the idea would be absolutely crucial. Republicans would look at this proposal as a way to practically denaruralize citizens.
This needs to be done though. The current hodgepodge is not sustainable.
