That trajectory is a fantasy, though

3-9 is not a good baseline for this year. How do you measure improvement year over year when you have basically an entirely new team? 3-9 last year doesn’t mean a whole lot to this team, especially when you don’t play Indiana and Ohio State. And, I think you’re failing to take into account they were lead by a high school level head coach last year.

Good coaches are getting it done fast nowadays. They have to because every team is really just a year to year proposition now. You may like a freshman on your bench, but he may decide to transfer somewhere else. You can’t count on a long, slow build because it’s too easy to end up being stripped for parts.

5 wins with this schedule would be awful. We play Nevada at home , SDSU at home, Purdue at home, Michigan State at home. Those teams are not good. That’s a good start right there to 7 wins. Win 5 and all the happy talk they’re giving to recruits suddenly falls on deaf ears. That’s the problem with the long trajectory. It’s bad for recruiting, and without the recruits you can’t keep climbing your way up.
