And for most of his career in the NFL he struggled to make these plays as it took a while for the light bulb to finally turn on. Nico has the measureables (size, arm, athletcism), if he wants to play in the NFL he needs to make plays, show he can get through progressions (hopefully he will have an Oline that allows him the time to do that) and cut down on mistakes. If he can demonstrate that his measurables translate into production he'll get an opportunity. These days, as a QB, you are almost better off getting drafted in the middle rounds where you aren't expected to step in play immediately and will get a little time to learn a system and adjust to the speed of the game. Anyone drafted in the first round is almost always going to be expected to contribute immediately, and most teams needing a rookie QB to start aren't going to be set up for success, so while the rookie contract money is obviously significantly better for first rounders, once you get past the first round there isn't a huge difference in pay between being a late second rounder and 5th or 6th rounder. It's all about lasting long enough to prove that you're worth a second, much more lucrative contract.
