This is hardly an original idea, but it is a good one.
There are reason for football and basketball to travel like they do. Adding the LA, Seattle, and Portland TV markets makes sense for sports that people watch, but not for the other sports.
Cutting out all that long-distance travel would help the budgets of every Big Ten team, and put less strain on the student-athletes who are really student-athletes. Create a western conference just for volleyball, softball, water polo, etc.
