I really wonder how things at UCLA might have gone for him long term if he didn’t have his focus get derailed by personal issues distracting him. His first few years were successful and in my opinion the most exciting style of Bruins football we’ve seen in the 20 years since MJD finished his collegiate career. On-field performance by Neuheisel’s players was immediately improved and he initially recruited well. Granted, the transfer portal changed the game, but over the past decade we haven’t matched high school recruiting successes that we saw under Neuheisel and in the early Mora years.
I think that the early years at UCLA and current results at UConn show that Mora is a good college head coach when he’s fully invested.
I don’t understand how any UCLA fan can hate the man. Yes, things eventually went off the rails, but the first few years were successful and extremely enjoyable teams to watch and he was instrumental in getting the Wasserman Football Center built, including making a significant donation personally. Was I disappointed in how things eventually turned out and do I hold Mora responsible? Yes. I just don’t understand why a UCLA fan would hate the guy.
