I have no idea. I could speculate that Foster feels comfortable among certain people on campus who know and like him, and was able to have a nice conversation about where he wants to take the program. But on a bigger stage, outside of his comfort zone, he cannot function (having practically nothing to say at Media Day, for example).

At the same time, some say Jarmond insisted on the new coach retaining some assistants who had already been extended, which virtually excluded anyone but Foster. Throw in players grumbling about leaving, and Jarmond had his guy.

I credit Chip for any RB successes. That was Chip's thing, getting the run game going. One of the few things he didn't fail at.
