Big brand name, still influential in a big TV market (not a Rice, SMU, SDSU, etc.) A good trip for conference foes, some balance with the other west coast schools. The top teams can't play each other every week, can they? You need some easier games, some filler teams. I think UCLA can fit the bill perfectly.

I think the path we are on is to stay with the big boys, but in this perpetual cycle of hiring and firing coaches every 3-5 years. As long as you give most fans a severed head every few years and some hope with a new guy, the cycle can play out indefinitely. We're going to be dancing to this same tune for the rest of our lives.
