Today, players don't have their scholarship pulled. You don't tell them they will sit on the bench. They are told that their NIL money will be used on other players.
For example, I don't think it was a coincidence that Mack entered the portal just after the Dent agreement to come to UCLA. The Bruins didn't want to spend the money on a fifth guard after Dent, Clark, Perry, and Freeney.
This ain't the good old days of loyalty either way. The players are professionals. They are liable to get cut fomr the roster.
