Only in the U.S. are sports so embedded in college universities.
It was fun while it lasted in the guise of an amateur endeavor.
But the writing is on the wall. With the fully professionalized system we now have, it seems like all would be better served by forming minor leagues for football, baseball, and basketball where athletes can ply their trade.
As an alumni and a fan seeing different faces every year has certainly reduced my enjoyment and affinity for these sports but maybe I'm just an old curmudgeon.
