some background - last four national champions have been Stanford, SC, Stanford and Stanford. UCLA lost in the finals in two of those years - otherwise it came down to just Stanford and SC.
Anyway, Cal made a really nice goal to cut the lead to two - passed it into their forward deep inside and when the Bruins jumped on her she swung her arm and tossed it backhanded into the corner of the net. But the Bruins defense frustrated the Cal offense - netkeeper Steele was once again just brilliant - and Cal went all out to stop us from running out the clock, pulling their netkeeper. And Szegedi tossed a long one into the empty net to ice the game with 23 seconds left.
UCLA wins another NC - 7-4 over Cal in Cal's home arena.
Goalkeeper Steele is a 6'0 tall freshman! Smith is a sophomore. Szegedi is a freshman. Don't think this team is done - roll is just getting started. Stanford I think had a couple players involved in the Olympics effort so they will likely be tough next year as well. But we're now 2 of 3 interns of teams with a realistic shot at NCs this spring. And softball is still alive - a top 6 seed in the NCAA tournament.
This spring is ending on quite a high note for UCLA
