So if Wray had stayed and Trump had fired him wouldn't Patel have to go through Senate hearings first, or else he would have to replace him with someone who already has? So what exactly is the consequence of his resignation?
Is it the fact that if Wray had been fired in, say, January, Trump would have been able to replace him with Patel on a temporary basis but now he can't? I thought that requires the Senate to be out for about 10 days first.
