I "think" the plan was to get him to pull out months earlier, how many months I don't know. But he wouldn't play along.
I get it's a crazy situation in your 4th year in office essentially admitting I'm not fit to serve another term, how do you then convince people you are fit to serve your last year, which I think he actually is.
But it appears he was just guilty of too much pride, he wanted to be the guy to beat Trump again. I have no idea who would have won an open primary, Harris, someone else who knows, but by not having the primary it clearly bothered lots of Dem voters and independents
