Today is a good example. After Knapp gave up a run and then loaded the bases, that would have been a perfect opportunity to put in a guy like, say, Phillips in a “high leverage” situation. You then go with him the next inning as well. Game order is not that important.
In a bullpen game, you have several chances in a game potentially to do this. Dave was going to stay with Knapp no matter what. I believe it’s because he’s trying to pump the relievers confidence. He did this a lot with Kenley in post season, for example.
