According to the segment I was listening to yesterday, it's all about being there to take photos for your social media.
There, is a hierarchy, among artists fans. And, the "coolest"* fans of a particular artist gets 100's of thousands of followers. I don't know if they monetize that, or if it just builds their ego.
*I wouldn't characterize dumping in my pants as cool.
