There is no mechanism to remove a president with low approval rates even if he's down to 10% and the nations screams their lack of confidence in him off the top their lung. There are no consequences for being unpopular on your second term since there is no promise of a third term that can be held over your head. By being the president, you're already the de facto leader of your party anyway, so who gives a damn?

Now, you may say, but midterms, but impeachment. To which I say "yeah, sure". You can't impeach a president if their party has not turned on them. End of story. So he can rape and pillage all day long, he may be the most hated man in America by far, and it would still mean squat,.

Our political system does not have the robust feedback loop that a healthy democracy needs. And it's by design.
