This critique of his that I watched recently (taking Musk's recent Economist interview as his initial context) starts with saying (and I'm wildly paraphrasing) "Elon Musk is two things. He is a social media influencer. Don't think of him as a technologist or a tech CEO. A lot of what he does makes more sense if you think of him as in influencer who pushes a lot of bullsh*t narrative he invented."

"He is also a capitalist -- Not an entrepenur, not a CEO, not an industrialist, not a Tony Stark. He is a capitalist who invests money into a business for the specific purpose of getting more money out. He is not a genius (except perhaps for his ability to tell stories). He's just the statistical outcome that was going to happen. Someone was going to put money into something, and get more out, put that into something else and get even more out."

It's a long video by this dude that I've linked before but it's a good one. I should put it up -- because that's how I roll.
