49ers coach was in a car accident, serious accident he got 40 stitches in his face, broken nose, injuries to arm etc. The Palo Alto police didn't make it public for more than a week and then initially said the other driver was at fault. then Shanahan publicly admits he was at fault he was looking down to find his cellphone looked up in time to hit he and get blasted by the airbag in the face. In a Tesla, going 20 MPH.
The problem is Palo Alto won't release any info, says the initial report was a clerical error and NOBODY believes them. The assumption was they were tyring to protect Shanahan because he's a 49er but all the reporting is neither party was drunk or anything so what's up?
Bystanders who saw it, 6 pm on Palo Alto street are saying Shahahans tesla they believe was self driving, he looked down to find his phone, the sun was in a spot where the Tesla didn't see the other driver and when she turned it ran right into her. So lots of people are now assuming they're not protecting Shanahan, they're protecting tesla because Elon badly needs FSD to get approved and this would be a classic example of why it would NOT get approved, 20 mph at 6 pm and it crashes headon into another car because the cameras didn't see her due to where the sun was.
So there's lots who believe Shanahan is lying about it not being in FSD because if it was, he violated California law by not closely monitoring it. And then there's people who think Shanahan is covering for Tesla who doesn't want it public it was in FSD.
Palo Alto says the law does NOT require them to release anything, the 911 call(which reportedly mentions FSD) or the body cam footage which would show if someone was impaired and would show if the police really blamed the other driver or if that was just a clerical error as they said.
Weird case, nobody got killed, they can afford to fix the cars(other driver is a 21 year old woman who had a Mercedes SUV).
So it's all about protecting someone or something
