I have been a huge critic of Roberts.
He relies too much on metrics and rarely shows the ability to make managerial decisions during the game.
His record in extra inning games is terrible.
However, he has pushed all the right buttons in this series. His match-ups in the bullpen game were spot on. There is a temptation to stay with the hot pitcher and stray from the plan. To Robert's credit, he stuck to the assignment.
For the last 2-1/2 games, the Dodgers shut down one of the best teams in baseball. He knew the Padres were a disciplined, hitting team. Best batting average in baseball.. They had the lowest strikeout stats in both leagues.
Give Roberts his due.
