Remember when it seemed like the most monstrous, unprecedented corruption was that, during his first term, President Donald Trump stomped all over the Emoluments Clause by owning a hotel where eager oligarchs and hangers-on could pay to stay?

Doesn’t that just seem quaint by comparison to the orgy of corruption that is Trump’s second term?

In the latest bit of grift, we’ve got another conveniently timed stock move. Early in February, Trump bought between $1 and $5 million in Axon stock—a pretty hefty purchase, even for the man who has billions of corrupt dollars at his disposal.

That big purchase came just two weeks before Immigration and Customs Enforcement posted a notice for a $220 million Taser contract, one where really only Axon would fit the bill.

It’s good to be king, particularly when you get to create a sort of vertical integration of corruption because no one is going to stop you. All you have to do is instruct your agency to create a contract where only one company fits the bill, then buy stock a couple of weeks before the request for proposals hits the government’s contracting database.
