A lawyer had attended law school but never passed the bar exam. For whatever reason the firm never caught on until years later, after making partner, he felt guilty and took the bar again and finally passed.
Well, back in the day legal newspapers published lists of everyone who passed the bar, and someone noticed that he was on the list.
So his firm (and it was a big firm for SD) learned that he had been practicing without a license for years, which is a fraud, and potentially had to refund all the fees they'd charged over the years. Plus, practicing without a license is unethical and illegal, so they fired him. Not sure if he got debarred.
I could see the moron as that guy, except he's so fking stupid he would have just failed the bar again and never been found out, at least until they started requiring bar numbers on pleadings.
