Same for Stone Mountain, Georgia.
But is it okay to quarry any mountain away? If a mountain is quarried--the blocks moved, carved, built into a structure to be a monument elsewhere--isn't it kind of the same thing?
I think of Abigail Adams. She stood on a hilltop near the family home in Braintree, MA. Along with her children, she watched the Battle of Bunker Hill on the far side of Boston. That hill no longer exists because it was completely quarried away. That, too, is a shame.
