The NBA has always had refs that call the game differently since they carry grudges. The same thing has long happened in baseball too.
The Umps like the NBA refs are allowed to carry grudges especially when many of them started on egregious poor calls.
Angel Hernandez was famously terrible tough as Will Clark has once mentioned, after buying him beers, he always got the calls. Jordan was famous for being a guy who could butter up a ref by putting his hand around him.
In a few years, we won't have Umps calling games. Fans and players trust ABS more.
I wouldn't be surprised if we put sensors on the bases to tell whether the baserunner before the sound of the ball hitting the glove.
