The 1980 coup in Turkey was a secular coup at its core since that was where the military was at the time. They were, on the other hand, constantly trying to recreate the military experience in civilian society, imposing weird top-down rules and mandatory patriotic displays.
These experience shape your outlook on life in weird ways. To this day, I can't leave home without an id in my pocket even if I'm just taking a walk around the block, and feel anxiety whenever I see a cop or in the presence of a soldier.
