In February of 1998, the Banner12 mailing list/message board briefly became the Bruinzone mailing list/message board.

Due to technical problems, Banner12 was restored for a few months. Then in June of 1998, the current Bruinzone message boards were established. Here is Ted's email with the announcement:

Okay, I think (hope) I've found a webhost that is going to be realible and provide the bandwith necessary for when football and basketball kick into high gear and this place is seeing 250 posts a day again. They have a 30-day $ back guarantee so I hope everyone abuses the host during June so I can figure out if it presents any problems.

I've also split the board along topic lines---football, basketball and general/open---in response to feedback some of you have provided. Some of the recent off-topic threads have been interesting and filled with passionate debate, but they also bothered some regulars who come here for UCLA sports info/talk and not political discussions of AA, student protests and the like. Hopefully the Open Forum can provide a place for discussion of the minor sports and off-topic things that may still be of interest to the UCLA community (alumni events, ticket exchanges, campus happenings etc...). For now I think it is fine if all posts go to one of the three boards, but when football rolls around and traffic picks up I think everyone will be better off (happier) if we post specific topics to the appropriate board.

I think the domain name (burinzone.com) transfer should be complete as I've been able to access the new host since Monday, but I'll leave this board up and open for a while in case everyone can't get through just yet. Plan is to shut this board down this weekend (but keep it ready just incase the new host proves to be as lame as the last one).
Anyway, here are the new links---go to any one of the boards and you can link to the other two.

...for everyone to refrain from posting profanity, sexual references and personal attacks? None of that makes you more credible or your opinion carry more weight. If anything it does just the opposite. I'd like everyone to feel free to express an opinion here without being ripped or encountering profanity and personal attacks.

I absolutely hate opening my email and reading a note from a mother which says her 12 year old son loves the Bruins, but she feels compelled to prohibit him from visiting this board because of some of the language. Can't we express our passion and different points of view with some measure of maturity?

Disagree with someone's opinion all you want, but do so by pointing out the flaws or errors in their reasoning and not taking the intellectually easy way out and calling them names and launching personal attacks. These bulletin boards can be great sources of information or utter garbage...the bottom line is an internet board becomes what the visitors make of it. Let's keep it clean and respect the opinions of others and disagree without be a jerk about it.
