If anything, Putin’s posture toward Trump appears to have backfired, leading Trump to authorize additional aid to Ukraine afterward.

Despite the outsized media attention surrounding Trump’s so-called peace summits, they have produced virtually no measurable impact on Russia, Ukraine, or NATO.

In practical terms, it has been mostly noise—much ado about nothing.

Wars of attrition end not through rhetoric, but when one side can no longer finance the fight.

Given Russia’s record, there is no agreement Ukraine can reasonably trust to be honored. They already have a peace promise when Crimea was taken and one from both the US/Russia when they gave up nukes.

Any settlement that lacks NATO peacekeeping forces on the ground is effectively meaningless. And for Russia, the presence of NATO troops on its border makes any such deal politically and strategically unacceptable.
