Those two elections where this was tested were both very atypical.
Hillary Clinton was never going to be elected. There wwre tooany people out there who actively disliked her for decades and decades. She triggers the right, and the way she treated Sanders and progressives, she was not going to get too much love from a portion of the left.
Harris had two major problems: (a) she listened to Democratic consultants who kept muzzling her, and (b) she could not separate herself from Biden, and lost all the advantage she had in the beginning, being non-Biden.
Both elections those women lost were change elections and the women were most certainly the opposite of being change candidates.
