According to the googles:

In 2020, the average income needed to afford a home in the United States was $59,046. This was less than the median income of $66,000, meaning that more than half of American households could afford a home without overextending their budgets.
However, the income needed to afford a home has increased significantly since 2020:
2024
According to Zillow, the average income needed to afford a home in the United States is $106,536, which is an 80% increase from 2020.
Coastal markets
The gap between income and the income needed to afford a home is especially large in coastal markets. For example, in Los Angeles, the required income to buy a median-priced home has increased from $152,000 to $335,000.
